Project Overview
The Welch Elementary School and Dover Air Base Middle School project replaces two aging facilities with a modern, integrated school serving elementary and middle-grade students at Dover Air Force Base. The approximately 105,549-square-foot facility is designed to accommodate up to 678 students through adaptable learning communities, shared academic resources, and flexible spaces that support 21st-century instruction.
The two-story elementary wing is organized into four small learning communities, while the single-story middle school wing includes academic support areas, collaborative hubs, and an expanded outdoor classroom. Shared facilities include administration, a media center, dining and performance space, gymnasiums, art and music rooms, robotics labs, and an environmental learning courtyard.
21st-Century Learning
Flexible classrooms, collaborative hubs, small learning communities, and extended instructional areas support project-based learning and evolving educational programs.
Shared Academic Resources
A media center, dining and performance commons, gymnasiums, art and music rooms, robotics labs, and administrative spaces support both schools within one integrated facility.
Environmental Education
Outdoor classrooms, an environmental courtyard, renewable-energy demonstrations, and a STEAM-focused program connect instruction with the surrounding natural environment.
