Project Overview

The Morris County Courthouse Expansion is a new eight-story, approximately 119,000-square-foot criminal courthouse facility designed to modernize the County’s judicial campus in Morristown. The building will include eight courtrooms, a jury assembly area, judicial chambers, meeting rooms, security areas, and spaces designed to meet current New Jersey Judiciary standards for safety, accessibility, and courtroom operations.

The expansion is being constructed next to the Morris County Administration and Records Building on Schuyler Place without replacing the historic courthouse. A secured three-story glass entrance foyer will create a new public entrance to the courthouse complex, while more than 60 percent of the adjacent pocket park is planned to return as a landscaped greenway following construction.

Modern Court Facilities

Eight new courtrooms, judicial chambers, jury assembly space, meeting rooms, and supporting areas will provide updated facilities for existing Superior Court operations.

Security + Accessibility

Modern circulation, security, life-safety, and accessibility features will replace antiquated spaces that no longer meet current judicial requirements.

Courthouse Campus Connection

A new secured entrance foyer will connect the expansion with the Administration and Records Building while preserving the historic courthouse and restoring much of the adjacent green space.
