40th Precinct

Since 1923, the NYPD’s 40th Precinct has stood on the same corner in the Mott Haven Section of the Bronx…but a changing and growing community meant different policing needs, which is the primary reason behind the construction of this brand new state-of-the-art 43,500 square foot precinct.

This new structure, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), is built 1 mile away from the original structure at the corner of 149th Street and St. Ann’s Ave. The façade is clad in sand-blasted concrete with large rectangular windows and there are a number of unique features to the building such as a street level and separately accessible community meeting room, an exercise courtyard with training areas and a green roof – the first-ever for an NYPD station.  Additionally, this new building is designed to exceed the requirements for LEED Silver certification.
